We’re excited to launch the Edge Esmeralda community calendar, Social Layer! You can now browse the full schedule of events, sessions, and gatherings planned across all four weeks of the popup village.
Edge Esmeralda is built on emergence and co-creation. While we offer core programming around weekly themes, much of the experience takes shape through what participants bring: spontaneous workshops, social events, late-night discussions, and creative experiments. Social Layer is what makes that possible. It’s the tool we use to discover what’s happening, RSVP to events, and contribute our own.

What is Social Layer?
Social Layer is the digital town square of Edge Esmeralda. It’s a collaborative calendar platform designed to support Pop-up Communities like ours, making it easy to see what’s happening across the village and shape the experience together.
The platform allows you to:
Discover events, talks, and meetups across weekly tracks
RSVP to sessions that interest you
Host your own events, from workouts to film screenings to idea salons
Some events on the calendar are private or invite-only. When event creation opens next week, you’ll be able to set your own event as public or private depending on your goals.
Getting Started
To explore the calendar, visit the discovery page and sign in using the email connected to your Edge Esmeralda 2025 ticket. If you're new to Social Layer, you’ll be prompted to create an account after clicking “Sign In.”
Once logged in, you’ll find Edge Esmeralda 2025 listed under “Pop-up Cities.” Select it to open our event homepage—your dashboard for everything happening at the village.
Navigating the Homepage
The event homepage is your command center. Here’s what you can do:
Filter Events: Use the filter icon to sort by date, venue, or tags like “health,” “governance,” or “Week 2.”
Change Views: Toggle between List, Compact, or Week view using the calendar icon.
Sync Calendars: Subscribe to the calendar feed to keep events synced to your personal schedule.
Explore Venues: Browse venue details and images to see where events are happening across the village.
Hosting Events
You’ll be able to host your own sessions—whether that’s a panel, a picnic, a writing salon, or a late-night jam.
Here’s what the flow will look like:
Create an Event: Add your event name, description, and cover image
Schedule It: Choose your preferred date and time
Pick a Location: Select from our venue list or propose another public space
Add Co-Hosts: Collaborate with others by entering their Social Layer usernames
Customize Visibility: Choose whether your event is public or private
Add Tags: Improve discoverability by adding relevant keywords
Pro Tips for Using Social Layer
If a venue shows “Unavailable,” it’s either booked or outside operating hours
Thoughtful tags help others find your event more easily
Consider accessibility and tone when designing your gathering
Export events to your personal calendar to stay organized
Designed for Pop-up Cities
Social Layer is an experiment in shared infrastructure for pop-up cities. Your experience and feedback will help improve the platform, not just for Edge Esmeralda, but for other communities building new ways of living and working together.

awesome. The detailed agenda in substack mentions daily 1-4pm sessions for Vital Futures from 24th to 30th, but I don't see those on Social Layer. Are they still happening or am I missing something? thanks.
